Crisco® invites families to take the Family Dinner Challenge and sit down to dinner together

ORRVILLE, OH (December 1, 2005)—The hectic pace of modern life, longer workdays and commutes, soccer practices, and fast food have made it difficult for families to gather around the table to enjoy the time-honored tradition of eating dinner together at home. In an effort to bring families to the dinner table, the makers of Crisco®, the leading cooking oil and shortening brand, are urging the nation to take the Crisco Family Dinner Challenge. By submitting a video essay of their family joining to break bread during the dinner hour, entrants will have the chance to win $10,000 for a kitchen makeover.

"Dinnertime is as much about satisfying hunger as it is about nourishing the family bond. We look forward to seeing how families meet the challenge of sitting down to dinner together." says Maribeth Badertscher, communications director

The benefits of the family dinnertime extend beyond the table. The family dinner has long been a touchstone of family togetherness, a time to slow down and enjoy one another while developing a meaningful connection. Children have opportunity to talk about their day and to converse in a caring, open environment that gives them a sense of belonging which will stay with them long after they've left the table. Furthermore, parents can learn about their children's lives and better understand the challenges they face growing up.

From December 1, 2005 to January 31, 2006, Crisco is calling for video essays that capture the importance of family dinner and asks entrants to submit videos showing their family having dinner together.
