History

In 1996, parents in the Wayzata, MN school district told us that they felt very supported until their children were five. Early Childhood Family Education was doing a superb job. But they felt that changed when their kids hit kindergarten. Several groups got together and initiated a parenting forum called, “Parenting Those Wonderful Kids.”  Dr. William Doherty, a social scientist  from the University of Minnesota was the keynote speaker and he presented on his new book, “The Intentional Family.”  Parents were thrilled to have supportive workshops on topics concerning children over the age of five.  Working with Dr. Doherty, we held a Town Forum on a topic that was just beginning to be voiced - our over-scheduled and underconnected families.  Out of that forum a community group organized and gave birth to Putting Family First.  Our forum, "Parenting Those Wonderful Kids!" is still going strong!
